Research Assistant
The Centre for the Study of Choice (CenSoC) at the University of Technology, Sydney, is a leading research centre that focuses on the study of human choice behaviour. We deliver innovative theoretical and predictive research solutions to public and private partners seeking a better understanding of how people make decisions. Our diverse range of projects comes from commercial partnerships with industry, as well as local and international grants. For example, we previously worked with companies and organisations like Motorola, Bose and the UK Ministry of Justice.
We seek a highly motivated individual to assist in conducting high quality research in an academic environment. Research assistants are involved in all stages of research projects from start to finish, beginning with the development of the research problem, implementation of a survey instrument or other method of data collection, to preparing final presentations.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated quantitative skills in at least one statistical package (STATA, SPSS, R or other relevant), or other higher level programs (MATLAB, GAUSS etc). Bonus points for knowledge in VBA Excel or web programming languages such as HTML/CSS and javascript.
Responsibilities
- Work with large survey and other datasets – including cleaning, descriptive statistics, analysis and modelling
- Conduct background research and assist with literature reviews
- General administration duties
The successful candidate should:
- Work collaboratively as a member of a research team, and also independently
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively in an interactive setting
- Be curious, and take initiative to learn new skills and techniques
- Be open to cross-disciplinary research
The successful candidate will be provided with opportunities to learn new modelling techniques and skills in various software packages. He or she will be participating in new cutting edge research that may lead to the publication of academic papers.
This position is suitable for those with qualifications in statistics, mathematics, econometrics, science, engineering, IT, psychology, and other relevant areas. Hours of work are negotiable; full-time or part-time work is available depending on candidate’s skills and experience.
